| Pokémon Platinum (US) Club Nintendo I have points to give! | I've imported Pokémon Platinum from the US and got some Club Nintendo points I can't use. You know, being in Europe I use Star Points So, I decided to give them away... to whoever answers this quick, easy question:
Who was one of the most prominent military figures during Queen Elizabeth I's England, later executed during her successor's reign?
Yes, I know, it's pointless. I could just give the points away, but this is way funnier Whoever gets the correct answer will get a PM with the code for the points. |

| Joey Recommends #2 Videogame: Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy |
Yay! Welcome to another Joey Recommends! This time I'll be trying to get you hooked to Fahrenheit -- known as Indigo Prophecy in the States -- a pretty cool, although a bit dated, paranormal thriller/adventure game.
Plot: In January 2009, everyman Lucas Kaine finds himself covered in blood, holding a knife, in the restrooms of a restaurant. He has no idea of what has happened. The only thing he knows is that he has just killed a man. From this point onwards, you control Lucas, now a fugitive, Carla Valenti and Tyler Miles, the policemen assigned to the case. Every action you take has repercussions in the development of the story, although the ending (or more precisely, endings) solely depend on what you do in the final moments of the game. Overall, the story is original and interesting, but the second half of the game seems half-baked, even rushed. Think of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords, a great game with a lot of potential that falls short on the second half of the story. That said, it's a great way to spend around 5 hours, which is what took me to beat the game for the first time. Short but sweet, I guess.
Gameplay: Now, this is where the game shines. Instead of a pure adventure game like Grim Fandango, there are some key moments in the story in which you need to play a game of Simon. Depending on whether you succeed or not, you'll get different reactions from certain characters, you'll lose or win a fight or you'll get more info on the background of the story. Think of the pre-rendered battle scenes, Quick Time Events, from games like God of War, Shenmue or Spider-Man 3, in which you have to press a button displayed on screen or else you'll lose. Moreover, each "chapter" is split between the three playable characters. You'll be sometimes controlling Carla and Tyler at the same time, atlernating between both, while sometimes you'll get a different setting for each characters. While in dialogue mode, you'll get a timer that quickly runs out. Each dialogue option is displayed on the top of the screen, just above the timer, and is chosen with a mouse gesture. If you click and move your mouse to the left, you'll select a different option than if you moved your mouse to the right. Be aware that in most situations, only a few dialogue options may be picked before the dialogue is finished. If you want to make a second playthrough, you can select the options you didn't pick before, something that gives a little bit more of replay value to the game. There is also a "sanity meter": depending on the choices made by the player, the characters will either decrease or increase their "morale". If the meter reaches zero, game over. To be honest, while a potentially interesting feature, it's no where as vital as it is in, let's say, Eternal Darkness. There is only one moment in which my meter dropped below 50%, and that's because it was an scripted event...
Presentation & Graphics: The extensive use of camera angles and split-screen cameras that remind of 24, the off-screen narration, film grain effect and letterboxing make the game feel like an interactive movie. Nevertheless, as I said before, the game feels a bit dated now. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are good for a 2005 game, but if you've played a game that relies as heavily as this one on character expresions, like Half-Life 2, then you'll be a bit disappointed. The expresions seem forced and unnatural sometimes, and the textures used in the game have a low resolution, even in "High" settings, resulting in many "souped" environments. Nevertheless, even people obssesed with Crysis-like graphics will be able to enjoy this game. The music is good, but just "good". There are a few licensed tracks from real-life artists, but they are hardly noticeable through the game. Expect the usual "you-know-something-is-about-to-happen" score every now and then. Overall, the music is the least memorable aspect of the game, IMO.
Score: Plot - 7.5/10 ~ The first half of the game is awesome, but it feels too rushed at the end to give it a higher mark, sadly. Graphics: 8/10 ~ A bit dated, but great nevertheless. Presentation: 8/10 ~ Every aspect of the game helps to get you involved with the plot. Replay value: 6/10 ~ You can replay the whole game, but it's easier to select a specific chapter and see the different outcomes.
Overall: 8/10 (Not an average). If you're looking for a solid game to play, look no further. Available for PC, Xbox and PS2, there's no excuse not to play Fahrenheit. |

| Love, sex and relations... Do you have any problem with them right now? | Well, the poll speaks for itself. I'm amazed by the amount of threads from people with these kinds of problems, so I decided to conduct a little "public research" on the matter. Is there something bothering you? Do you want to ask that cute girl out but don't know how? Has a friend of yours backstabbed you recently? Are you having a hard time at school/university because of that ass who makes fun of you? Of course, this is not meant to be a problem page from a paper, but hey... if you don't want to get too personal, it's OK. But I'd like to hear about the problems of my fellow tempers.
As for me, in case you're wondering, I've got no problems at all with my friends. I only have a few, to be honest, so things usually go as smooth as silk with them. There's a group of people in my class... no, wait, just a few people, including me, don't belong to that group... so I guess that the whole class except us 5 or 6 makes going to the university a pain in the rear. And... I guess I like a girl. I guess. She's got a boyfriend, so I don't pay much attention to how I feel about her. It makes things more beareable that way.
(PS: I'm not asking about sex problems because that's just too personal... ) |

| Joey Recommends #1 Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader? |
I don't know if I should take the title seriously and start my own "... Recommends" section, but I've just finished reading this comic and I feel the urge to make you all read it. Batman #686 - Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader? #1 is written by Neil Gaiman, of The Sandman fame. You can see it's pure Gaiman; from the dialogues to the story, from the art to the presentation, it's pure excelence. (Yes, I know Neil didn't illustrate this comic, but the art goes hand-to-hand with the story). It reminds me of The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, a book I love. If you're a Batman fan, go read it now. And if you're a comic book fan, go read it now. Heck, go read it now, period.
PS: You can, obviously, get it for free, if you know what I mean. |

| F***ing tired of studying | | Tomorrow I'm having my Culture and Civilisation of Great Britain first exam. The title it's a bit misleading: it's basically History of England. As such, it's %40 dates, %50 kings and %10... I guess more dates and kings. I'm so f***ing tired of this. I've been trying to memorise, guess what, dates and kings for some days now, up to King Richard III, last Plantagenet. I've always kept my notes up-to-date and history itself is something nice to study, but I'm still finding it... boring. Like grinding-in-MapleStory boring. And I've still haven't got my French exam back. The tension is killing. Thankfully, everything will be over tomorrow by noon. I hope... |
